| | | | | | | Records indicate that Jennie enlisted in the 95th Illinois Infantry Volunteers under the name of Albert D.J. Cashier and officially completed three years of service with an Honorable Discharge. She continued her disguise as Albert for the next 50 years doing odd jobs. Albert participated in a least forty battles, including the seige of Vicksburg. As Albert, she settled in Saunemin, Illinois, and was employed by local state senator Ira Lish. He accidentently hit her with his car. She was admitted to Quincy, Illinois old soldiers home, but when her gender was discovered , she was transfered to Watertown insane asylum. Jennie passed away at age 71 in 1915. She was buried in her Union uniform with full military honors at Sunnyslope Cemetery,Saunemin, Illinois. | | | | Send to a Friend: | Click Here to email this listing |
